  • COE Eliminated for 2017-2018

With the passage of recent legislation (ESHB 2224), Collections of Evidence (COEs) are eliminated as an assessment graduation alternative starting with school year 2017-18. Administrators should immediately inform all students and teachers participating in summer ELA, mathematics, or biology COE classes or who are otherwise developing collections for a winter 2018 submission of this situation.

ELA or math COEs submitted by students in June can count as a graduation alternative. Student results (scores) from the June math and ELA submissions will be provided to districts – slated for release in early August – and passing scores will fulfill the graduation requirement for the applicable content area(s).  However, because the science assessment graduation requirement has been delayed until the Class of 2021, the Biology COE is not a factor in graduation and June submissions will not be scored.
