Expository Inclusion Prompts

Mandatory Online COE submission for Writing collections in 2012-2013.
We are providing these materials for summer school students and those schools that use an offline method of producing online COE work samples.

Summer school students developing paper-based collections are required to submit the Request for Exemption from the Online COE Form to OSPI in order to receive access to the required submission forms.

Inclusion Prompts
Inclusion prompts are prompts designed specifically for use by students and are eligible for inclusion in a Collection of Evidence. These prompts have been created by teachers throughout the State of Washington. The inclusion prompts have been set apart from the Classroom Practice Prompts for a number of reasons and are therefore not to be used for instructional purposes. The prompts and resulting work samples are built and developed around important writing skills. These are the same skills assessed on the state assessment through the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE). With inclusion prompts, teachers will need to limit their assistance so the work sample is truly a reflection of student work. Inclusion prompts will be in PDF format and are not to be edited. The goal is to have enough prompts in the inclusion bank so that the students have a wide variety of topics to choose from.

Only inclusion prompts are eligible for inclusion in a student Collection of Evidence to be submitted.
